One of the biggest problems is raising the alarm should you find yourself in an emergency situation. McMurdo have developed the Fastfind personal locator Beacon for just such a situation. This compact device will easily fit into a pocket, and in an emergency can be manually activated sending a 406 MHz distress signal to the rescue services with position information and details of the owner. The unit also transmits a 121.5 MHz homing signal to further help locate the casualty. The Fastfind has been extensively used by organisations such as Operation Raleigh and is considered essential kit amongst many adventure sports enthusiasts.
